Born in the late 1950's, Mark Raats was attracted to art at a young age practicing his drawing skills by copying Hal Forster’s weekly comic strip - Prince Valiant.

On completing his education, Raats was keen to pursue a career with Disney animation and in the early 80's he was attracted to the fledgling computer graphics

industry - completing his first Computer Animated short film in December 1985. The field of animation continued to play an important role in his creative career but

in 2000, he was re-introduced to traditional art when he completed a colored pencil portrait of President Nelson Mandela - for the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

Raats continues to work across many of the art disciplines and he specializes in using Acrylic Paint and colored pencil. Generally, he prefers realistic studies and

more recently he began re-exploring the fields of wildlife and figure art.
